What a difference (almost) a year makes - not

Took a long break - I thought there would be a few things a week to comment on as the President hurtled towards mediocrity and Carter-esque malaise.  I didn’t think it would be 5-10 things a day and I am fundamentally lazy.

Picking up where I left off I find the president no more evolved or nuanced than before:

The most deferential president in history bows to city mayor

The most deferential president in history bows to city mayor

Moving on:  First it was ‘Tallee-bahn’, now it’s ‘corpse-man’.  Dan Quayle is still being pilloried for misspelling potato but this gets no mention in the MSM?

The cult of O

A good piece by Gene Healy in the DC Examiner.  He makes the good point that this is not confined to the left and their leaders, but given the media stranglehold there are ten times the examples.  A sickening exerpt:

Last summer, San Francisco Chronicle columnist Mark Morford wrote that “Many spiritually advanced people I know … identify Obama as a Lightworker, that rare kind of attuned being who … can actually help usher in a new way of being on the planet.”
The Politico recently ran a 900-word article entitled “The Power of Obama’s Hand,” reverentially describing how the president “uses touch to control and console simultaneously,” laying hands on supporters and opponents alike.
And in February, author Judith Warner used her New York Times blog to confess that “The other night I dreamt of Barack Obama. He was taking a shower right when I needed to get into the bathroom to shave my legs.”

DVD Box set update

Unfreakingbelievable - the thoughtless gift of a box set of DVDs for British PM Gordon Brown really was Region 1, so they don’t even work on the PMs DVD player back home.  Amateur hour.

A book deal? Being president isn’t enough?

It seems that president Obama signed a book deal just before taking office.  A pretty sweet deal with a $500,000 advance for a children’s book.

“I don’t recall any sitting president entering into a book deal,” said campaign finance lawyer Jan Baran, former general counsel to the Republican National Committee. “They all have historically done that after they leave office.

“I recall the only ones who did sign book deals while living there were first ladies, and my recollection is they gave it to charity.”

The odds of that money going to charity?  The same as any AIG bonuses being given back voluntarily.

The smartest idiots we know

This is too much, has there ever been an administration as gaffe-prone as this one?  It hasn’t been two months and there is enough material to keep Ann Coulter writing through the end of the next decade.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton opened her first extended talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov by giving him a present meant to symbolize the Obama administration’s vow to “press the reset button” on U.S.-Russia relations.

She handed a palm-sized box wrapped with a bow. Lavrov opened it and pulled out the gift: a red button on a black base with a Russian word peregruzka printed on top.

“We worked hard to get the right Russian word. Do you think we got it?” Clinton asked.

“You got it wrong,” Lavrov said.

Instead of “reset,” Lavrov said the word on the box meant “overcharge.”

Not much to say about this.   Does the girl represent the media and their feelings towards the president?  I guess that explains the big smile on his face.

Need a new tag for this

Carlos the Jackal has written a letter to the president, asking for help locating his right-hand man and terror accomplice.  He must feel the hope and change from his jail cell in France, and is deluded enough to think that Obama will respond and/or help him out.  This can’t have helped his case:

After appealing again for the release of Breguet, or at least information about his fate, Carlos ended his letter with the loaded phrase: “As your grandfather would have said it, Mr President, Allahu akhbar - God is great!”
