*Should the earth require more time to heal, or if water levels
have not finished receding, relief from the new New Deal
will have to wait a little longer:
Took a long break - I thought there would be a few things a week to comment on as the President hurtled towards mediocrity and Carter-esque malaise. I didn’t think it would be 5-10 things a day and I am fundamentally lazy.
Picking up where I left off I find the president no more evolved or nuanced than before:
The most deferential president in history bows to city mayor
Moving on: First it was ‘Tallee-bahn’, now it’s ‘corpse-man’. Dan Quayle is still being pilloried for misspelling potato but this gets no mention in the MSM?
Remember all the chuckling and derision about the pictures of Bush holding hands with the Saudi king? Never mind that other presidents have done it, it was proof positive that Bush was the king’s oil-needing lackey. So what does this picture establish?
Heads of state don’t bow to other heads of state. Amateur hour!
The MSM has seen fit to drop this story down the memory hole, so for most people this event never happened. It’s just that easy to control the narrative.
So the president of GM stepped down because Obama told him to? Is this the direction he wants to take the country? On the plus side, sales of ‘Liberal Fascism’ are going to stay afloat for quite a while longer.
Update from James Lileks’ twitter:
Maybe I’m old-school, but “President fires CEO” looks as wrong as “Pope fires Missile.” Does not compute.
Team Obama used their high-tech savvy and uber-competence to ruin the ticket process for the Easter egg roll at the White House. Here’s a part to show how once again, they demonstrate no knowledge of how free markets work:
With the egg roll more than two weeks from the date of the online ticket distribution, as opposed to at most three days in the past, the Obama administration has created a huge opening for the online scalping of free tickets.
Remember that blue-ribbon panel appointed to solve the economic woes? The White House hopes you don’t, because after all the foofrah, they haven’t done squat. My guess is they won’t either, until they’re shamed into holding a public meeting. It’s all about feeling good about doing nothing, and creating the appearance that you care.
Asked about Obama’s right to solicit candid suggestions, Shapiro said, “If he wants private advice, he should pick up the telephone. He can call anybody he wants. If he wants to form a presidential advisory committee, they ought to meet in public.”
In the 60 Minutes interview tonight the President included this swipe at former VP Cheney:
Obama also used the interview to criticize former Vice President Dick Cheney’s criticism of Obama’s decision to close Guantanamo Bay prison, where terror suspects are held. Since leaving office, Cheney has been an outspoken critic of Obama over the war on terror, saying Obama was taking steps to “raise the risk to the American people of another attack.”
“How many terrorists have actually been brought to justice under the philosophy that is being promoted by Vice President Cheney?” Obama asked. “It hasn’t made us safer. What it has been is a great advertisement for anti-American sentiment.”
There have been how many terrorist attacks on US soil since 9/11? Hm? I think the ‘hasn’t made us safer’ canard can be safely stowed away for good.
And to think they called John Kerry a flip-flopper:
On Wednesday, only two days after he lifted President Bush’s executive order banning federal funding of stem cell research that requires the destruction of human embryos, President Barack Obama signed a law that explicilty bans federal funding of any “research in which a human embryo or embryos are destroyed, discarded, or knowingly subjected to risk of injury or death.”
President Obama likes to say it’s a bad bill but he has to sign it because he inherited it from the previous administration. Blame games aside, you know what else he inherited? The veto pen.
